BEACH
(A Praia Lírica)
Film Photography
Salvador da Bahia
2000 - 2006

Shot between 2000 and 2006 in Salvador da Bahia, the photo-series reflects on the urgency of escaping the tensions of modern life. Inspired by the romantic painting and the cinema, the photographs emanate a subtle tension between the pictured peace/pleasure of the beach life and the alienation from eventual conflicts, crises and drama present in the modern world.
In an atmosphere of lyricism, the work reflects on the novel “On the Beach” by Nevil Shute, adapted for the cinema in 1959. In a world devastated by nuclear war, the rare habitable places left  - including South America - are rapidly being contaminated and people have nowhere to go.
